I'M WILLIAM EXCELLENT,
I'm an Industrial Design student at the Savannah College of Art and Design, originally from Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Coming from a family of engineers, I learned early on that design is a tool not just for creating objects, but for shaping the world we want to live in. Witnessing the challenges and untapped potential in my home country inspired a lifelong passion for problem-solving—one that now drives my design practice.
For me, design is about improving the quality of life through thoughtful, functional products that also engage the senses. In a world saturated with objects, I focus on simplification and intelligent combination—merging ideas, forms, and functions to create something both new and intuitive.
I draw inspiration from pioneering designers like Raymond Loewy, Dieter Rams, and Jacob Jensen, not just for their aesthetics, but for their bold ambition and clarity of vision. To me, design is like quantum physics: it requires you to travel into the future, find what’s needed, and bring it back to the present in a form people can understand and use.
What does it take to design something so intuitive that it feels inevitable?
